Unconference Topic: Mapping and User Interfaces
Posted Tuesday, February 26, 3:38PMHello all,
I'm looking at setting up a presentation on map based user interfaces. I work at Orbitz.com and as a UI Engineer I have been doing a decent amount of work on map based solutions and user interactions.
We've learned a lot from our prototypes, usability tests, etc. on effective ways to for a web user to perform searches and sort through data through a map and I'm hoping to share that with you all.
Leave a comment if you'd be interested this kind of presentation, and any specifics questions/ideas you might have. I'll make sure to incorporate it all in there.
Thanks,
Joe

Joe,
Please keep me informed if you have this presentation, I would love to attend.
Thanks!
Carrie
Hi Joe,
I'm Catherine Burton, organizer of the Silicon Valley Web 2.0 Mapping and Social Networks Meetup Group. We are looking an additional presentation to add to our March 18th lineup. Are you in the Bay Area? If you can't make the 18th, it is very possible that we could schedule you for another time.
Here's a link to our webpage for more info: http://web.meetup.com/49/
Please contact me ASAP.
Thank you,
Catherine
Cathrine, let me know the next time you do one and I (Skyhook/Loki) would love to participate...
I think this topic is great. We've all demonstrated that it's possible, and easy, to put markers on a map. Now we need to apply the same design principles that inform non-geographic interfaces, as well as general cartographic principles, to Where2.0 maps.
Your usability testing and non-expert interfaces would be really great info.
Agreed we've been spending a lot of time looking at what cartographic approaches we can port over to the GeoWeb and what technologies are best for rendering them. Would make for a great discussion.
count me in. We have an idea seeking some great visualization!
Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. Looks like I better step up my presentation :)
I'll definitely be attending the unconference and presenting on this topic. I look forward to sharing what I've learned with all of you. I especially like the idea of a discussion of cartographic approaches (which I'm probably not too familiar with) to a UI compared to the web site UI approaches.
If there's any questions or topics you'd like me to research/present on, feel free to leave them here.
